By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: About 200 crocodiles are on the loose entering urban areas in Tamaulipas, across from Texas following heavy rains from Hurricane Beryl.
According to CNN, authorities have captured and relocated about 200 crocodiles since Tropical storm Alberto pelted the region with rain in June.
Hurricane Beryl passed through the same area before making landfall in Texas earlier this week.
According to Mexican authorities, the heavy rains raised water levels in coastal lagoons, leading the animals to crawl into cities like Tampico.
The federal Attorney General’s Office for Environmental Protection said about 40 more crocodiles had been captured in the area in June and were relocated to appropriate habitat outside populated areas.
