By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean club Port Layola responded well for 38 minutes but thereafter fell to the much more powerful Honduran club Olimpia, losing 6-1 in their second match in the Concacaf Central American Cup at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan on Thursday evening.

Olimpia jumped ahead in the 16th minute with a goal by José Pinto. Port fought back and leveled five minutes later in the 22nd minute. Colombian Andrés Orozco, on the far right of the goal area, headed in a cross by Enfield Nunez. Olimpia went ahead in the 39th minute on a header by Yustin Arboleda, who had fouled Naim Wilson by pushing him to the ground.

Olimpia scored four more in the second half as Edwin Rodríguez scored in the 59th minute, Jorge Benguché in the 61st, Edwin Solano in the 77th, and Josman Figueroa in injury time in the 90’+1.

The score could have been worse were it not for Colombian goalkeeper Oscar Palomino, who saved many shots. Palomino injured his right hamstring late in the match while deflecting a powerful shot from a free kick.

While Olimpia recorded their second win, Port suffered their second loss. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, Antigua played to a 0-0 draw against Águila.

Port’s final two matches will be away. They’ll face El Salvador’s Águila at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Santa Tecla’s Estadio Las Delicias. Their final group game will be in Panama City, where they’ll face CA Independiente (CAI) at Estadio Rommel Fernández at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
