Women’s National Amateur Interdistrict Championship: Cattle Landing Dolphins secure 1-1 draw against Cayo Dreamers FC

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In an evenly matched contest at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio on Wednesday, August 21, the Cattle Landing Dolphins managed to pull off a 1-1 draw against Cayo Dreamers FC in the Women’s National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (WNAIC).

The game kicked off with a bang as Michelle Garbutt of Cayo Dreamers FC found the back of the net in the very first minute, putting her team ahead and setting the tone for an intense match. The Dolphins, however, were not to be outdone. They fought back valiantly, and their persistence paid off when Shardee Shadae scored the equalizer in the 60th minute. The visiting Dolphins’ defense held strong against several incisive attacks from the Dreamers, ensuring the match ended in a well-deserved draw.

In the other match on Wednesday, Corozal Elite FC wrestled away the lead from Red Bank FC with a 4-0 victory at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk. The game started an hour late due to weather and field conditions.

This result moves the Dolphins up by a point for a total of three from three draws and one loss. However, they remain in fourth place. Being the team that has played more games, the Dolphins will have a rest day on Saturday.

The Dreamers managed to earn their first point after two consecutive losses but remain in the cellar. On Saturday, their bid to get out of the cellar will have them traveling south to face Red Bank FC at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence at 4:00 pm.

The other Saturday game will feature Corozal Elite FC against Las Flores at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk at 6:00 pm.
