New generation of agricultural leaders emerge as camp culminates

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise proudly announced the successful culmination of the one-week Youth in Agriculture Summer Camp, held from August 19 to 23.

The camp, hosted at the Yo Creek Agriculture Station, brought together over 100 enthusiastic young participants from across the country to explore the dynamic world of agriculture.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in a series of hands-on activities, interactive workshops, and educational field trips designed to spark their interest in agriculture.

The camp focused on a variety of key topics, including sustainable farming practices, livestock management, crop production, and agro processing.

Under the guidance of experienced agricultural professionals, participants gained practical skills and knowledge, empowering them to contribute to the future of Belize’s agricultural sector.

The final day of the camp was marked by a closing ceremony attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, local farmers, community leaders, and proud family members.

Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai commended the participants for their dedication and enthusiasm, stating, that the camp has been a testament to the potential of the youth to drive change in the agricultural sector. The knowledge and skills they have gained were not just for today, but for the future.

“The Youth in Agriculture Summer Camp is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to encourage youth involvement in agriculture and ensure the sustainability of the sector. As these young leaders return to their communities, they are expected to inspire others and contribute to the growth and development of agriculture in Belize,” the Ministry explained.

The Ministry of Agriculture extended its heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, instructors, sponsors, and partners who made this camp a resounding success.
