By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Kinich Ajau boys eliminated their archrivals, the Ek-Balam U-17 team, with a score of 99 to -3 at the Philip Alvarez Park in Orange Walk Town on Sunday, September 8.

The victory qualified the Kinich Ajau boys for the Mundo Maya Under-17 Pok-ta-Pok championships, to be held in El Salvador at the end of November. The regional tournament is organized by the Central American Association of the Ancestral Maya Ball Game – Pok-ta-Pok.

Kinich Ajau rolled over Ek Balam in an impressive manner. According to information from Orange Walk, the Kinich Ajau squad has been practicing for a year and a half, while Ek Balam, despite their senior squad winning the world championships three times, are new to the sport.

Incidentally, the Kinich Ajau senior men’s team will represent Belize at the 6th Mundo Maya Pok-ta-Pok World Cup in Honduras in 2025.
