Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosts 28th Expo Marketplace

By Aaron Humes: Some 137 exhibitors will showcase the best of their products at the annual Expo Marketplace, taking place this weekend at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.

Known to older Belizeans as the Festival Grand Market, the Expo is in its 28th year under that name and is one of the two tentpole events for Belizean business each year, the other being the National Agriculture and Trade Show.

At official opening ceremonies, Mayor Bernard Wagner noted that the Expo celebrates the worth of enterprise, showing a renewal of economic development across the country, especially the “hidden gems” of micro-enterprise.

Chamber President Katherine Meighan made it a point of pride that of the 137 businesses exhibiting today, 80 percent are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) and the Chamber regularly supports and advocates for business interests.

The Expo runs until 6 p.m. today and Sunday. Tickets are available for 5 dollars for adults and 3 dollars for those under 11.
