By Aaron Humes: The High Court has been forced to adjourn a murder trial after the accused’s defense counsel fell ill and was unable to be in court to represent him.
Kyle Zetina, 25, is being tried for the triple murder of Excelsior High School vice principal, 44-year-old Alarice Andrewin; Vidal Antonio Yuman, 39, and Maria Lucas, 19, a Guatemalan national inside Andrewin’s home at Mile 10 1/2 on the George Price Highway on June third, 2018.
Norman Rodriguez is representing Zetina, while Senior Crown Counsel Sheiniza Smith is prosecuting. More than 16 witnesses have been called since the trial commenced in June.
Zetina was initially charged, arraigned, and indicted along with Shawn Flores, 23; but on June 28, 2024, Flores was acquitted by High Court Justice Candace Nanton due to no evidence linking him to the murders. The court found that there was sufficient evidence to proceed against Zetina.
The case was adjourned for December 16, 2024.
