Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua triumph in Day 2 of Central American U17 Women’s Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After the Belize Under-17 Women’s National Team defeated Guatemala in four sets in the opening game of Day 2 of the first-ever Central American U17 Women’s Championship in Managua, Costa Rica and Nicaragua followed suit, getting past El Salvador and Honduras, respectively. The regional tournament, organized by the Association of Central American Volleyball Federations (AFECAVOL), is being held this week at Nicaragua’s Institute of Sports Volleyball Gymnasium (IND) in Managua.

Belize opened Wednesday going tough against Guatemala and beating them 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 26-28, 25-21), led by captain Akili Jones, who amassed 27 points.

Later in the day, Costa Rica recorded their second win, drubbing El Salvador 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19). Nicaragua also recorded their second victory when they closed Wednesday’s games by defeating Honduras 3-1 (25-6, 17-25, 25-11, 25-15).

The tournament continues on Thursday, September 26, with Costa Rica opening against Guatemala at 1:30 PM. Then, El Salvador take on Honduras at 4:00 pm, and Nicaragua will close against Honduras at 6:30 pm.
