By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 23-year-old woman with Down Syndrome has become the latest victim of a sexual assault, following a disturbing incident inside her home in a rural village off the Northern Highway. The alleged perpetrator, 22-year-old John Alexander Belisle of Rancho Dolores Village, has been charged with rape.
According to police reports, the assault occurred around midnight on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The victim, accompanied by her 67-year-old father, reported to police that she was asleep when someone entered her home and raped her.
Belisle appeared in Court #5 on Tuesday afternoon, where he was read the single charge of rape. Due to the serious nature of the offense, no plea was taken, and no bail was offered. He has been remanded to Belize Central Prison until December 2, 2024.
