Leslie told police he docked his 23-foot vessel with a 60 Horse Power grey Yamaha brand engine near the Municipal Pier area in Placencia Village. When he returned on Sunday July 17th at about 7:00 a.m. the boat was not there. The vessel’s engine is valued at $6,000.

A second vessel was reported stolen also on Saturday July 16th by Carlton Young Sr. He told officers that he docked his 23 feet boat with a grey 50 horse power Yamaha brand outboard engine named “Survival” valued at $15, 000 near the Municipal Pier. When he returned on Sunday the engine was missing

Another Placencia resident, 44-year-old George Eiley Jr, a tour guide, told police that on Sunday he docked his 23-foot boat named “Tessa” which had a 60 horse power Yamaha brand engine valued at $9,000 on the lagoon side in the Sunset Point area of Placencia Village. When he returned to it he found his boat in a different position and found that someone had cut the cable he used to secure it. The battery from inside was removed and the bolts that held the engine to the boat were unscrewed but not removed yet.

Soon after his report, George Eiley Sr., 61, reported that on Sunday between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. he was informed that his Yamaha outboard engine valued between $5,000 and $6,000 was stolen from his vessel named “Jadah” which was docked at the lagoon area at the South end of the village. When he made checks, he found the engine missing along with other items which he later found a short distance away.

When the first two reports were made, police informed the complainants that they had recovered some boat engines. Further police investigation has led to the arrest of Erwin Frederick Castillo, 33 of Belize City; Ian Francis Haylock Jr., 27 of Belize City Elroy Charles Young, 26, of Belize City and Kylon Garbutt, 30, of Placencia. All were jointly charged for theft, attempted theft and handling stolen goods.
