By Dalila Ical.: The 3rd annual Sugar Fest is currently underway at the BSI field in Orange Walk.
The event is organized as a fun day after the closing of the sugar crop for BSI employees, sugar cane farmers and their families along with the general public.
It is organized by a committee comprised of members from BSI, SIRDI, the three cane farmers associations and the sugar board.
The event is also organized “to give back to the community” said one of the organizers Olivia Avilez, Cane Farmers Relations officer at BSI/ASR. They invite charity organizations from Orange Walk and Corozal to set up booths and raise funds during the event.
The event is held for an entire day and includes a number of activities for the entire family including music, singing, a strong man competition, raffles and lots of food.
Presentations are also expected by the Steel Pan group, Abraxas and Morelia. Football lovers can also enjoy a football game later in the afternoon.
The event is funded by BSI and SIRDI through the IDB Multilateral Investment Fund.
