By Aaron Humes: Alfonso Castillo was stabbed twice last week on July 21, 2016 through Rhaburn’s Alley near Victoria Street, Belize City.
Police have charged 24 year old Raheem Marsden with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.
In court, Marsden claimed he was acting in self-defence during the altercation and he was lucky that he got hold of the knife first or he would have suffered harm. But police and the victim, Castillo, say it was Marsden who pulled out the knife and stabbed him to the abdomen and shoulder.
Marsden’s “violent criminal history” was cited as grounds for not granting bail, including a previous conviction. That was enough for Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith, who sent Marsden to prison until his next court appearance on October 18.
