By Aaron Humes: As September draws nearer, 36 students will not have to worry about where the money will come from for school fees and books for the coming school year.
They will benefit from scholarships provided by the Ariel Rosado Education Foundation and its corporate and personal sponsors, now including the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) and Social Security Board (SSB).
2-3rds or 24 of the recipients will attend high school across the country; 10 will learn to sail with the Belize Sailing Association and 2 others will attend Galen University in Cayo.
President of the Foundation Dr. Alvaro Rosado told us that it has not gotten any easier to weed out the most deserving students – but it is a challenge he welcomes.
Also a source of joy are the success stories – 8 high school graduates this year and three former scholars entering the work force.
And never to be forgotten is Ariel Rosado himself, his life cut short by a traffic accident before the age of 25. The Foundation recognizes his thirst for knowledge and self-development and holds him up as an example for its scholars.
Youth worker and media personality Nuri Muhammad was the guest speaker.
