By Aaron Humes: Most of the Belize River Valley and communities along the Philip Goldson Highway and Old Northern Highway can expect to receive electricity later on Monday, according to Belize Electricity Limited.
A statement from the state-run company issued on Sunday reports that as of overnight Saturday, power supply had been restored to 96% of the country and 86% of customers in the Belize District.
Areas still without power include all of Sandhill and communities along the Old Northern Highway to Maskall; along the Philip Goldson Highway to Crooked Tree; Burrell Boom and the length of the Burrell Boom Road up to Flowers Bank and Rancho Dolores as well as a part of Caye Caulker.
BEL reminds customers that they will be experiencing intermittent outages in order to reconnect additional customers.
As the Company restores power to these communities, several premises will be unable to connect due to damages to transformers and service entrances which occurred during the passage of Hurricane Earl.
BEL is therefore offering the services of licensed electricians, contracted by the Company, to conduct inspection and repairs of damaged service entrances. Interested customers are encouraged to request BEL’s assistance by calling 0-800-BEL-CARE (0-800-235-2273) or for more information.
