By BBN Staff: Approximately 18,000 people will soon have access to polyclinics to be constructed at Chunox and San Narciso Villages in the Corozal District.
Ground will be broken today at both villages. The building in Chunox Village is being funded by Government to the tune of $900,000 and will feature a one-storey reinforced concrete building with an approximate floor area of 5,500 square feet. A reverse osmosis system, capable of meeting the proposed Polyclinic’s water demand, will also be supplied and installed.
At least 11,000 Villagers in Chunox, Progreso, Sarteneja, Copper Bank, Little Belize, Fire Burn, Newland and surrounding communities stand to benefit from the new health center.
Another ceremony is also scheduled to be built at San Narciso Village where a second health centre will be constructed with a price tag of $900,000.
It will feature “a one-storey reinforced concrete building with an approximate floor area of 5,500 square feet, a shallow reinforced concrete foundation frame and a reinforced concrete ground floor slab,” said a government press release. It will also serve as living quarters for medical staff to ensure medical services are provided on a timely basis. At least 7,000 residents in the village and surrounding communities stand to benefit from the project.
The construction of both Polyclinics is in alignment with the National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2014- 2024 by GOB. They are intended to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality, water borne, food borne and vector borne conditions, communicable and non-communicable diseases adds the government release.
Completion of both health centers is scheduled for March 2017. The projects are being funded through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank.
