By Aaron Humes: She was disappointed on Friday when her case was adjourned at the request of Crown Counsel Rene Montero.
But today, Melissa Ferguson, the wife of accused murderer William “Danny” Mason was very happy when Justice Troadio Gonzalez offered her bail in the sum of 12 thousand dollars.
Senior Crown Counsel, Sheneiza Smith had no objection to bail being granted to Ferguson who is obviously a flight risk; on Friday, Crown Counsel, Rene Montero could not say then if he had objection to bail since all he could tell the court was that the case file came late Thursday evening so he could not review the application.
Justice Gonzalez set stringent conditions.
Ferguson must surrender all her travelling documents to the Belmopan Magistrate Court clerk of Court and she must report to the Belmopan Police station every Friday effective Friday, August 19, 2016. She must also not interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses and attend all her court adjournments in the Belmopan Magistrate Court and not be arrested and charged for any other offense whilst out on bail or her bail will be revoked.
Speaking publicly for the first time afterward, Ferguson said she was “shocked” by recent events that have landed her and her partner at the center of a political and legal maelstrom.
She denied ever being accused of a crime and said she could not conceive of her husband, whom she has been with for several years, conspiring or carrying out such heinous crimes as murder and kidnapping. She described herself and her partner as “investors” who wanted to make Belize their home – once these “major obstacles” are cleared.
