By Aaron Humes: It was not reported but Saturday’s National Song Competition event at the Memorial Park saw violence which led to a mother and daughter appearing in court today.
The 40 year old domestic whose name we will not call in order to not identify her daughter, who is 17, were jointly charged with wounding of Shantae Gabourel, a patron attending the event.
The pair pleaded not guilty before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer and were offered bail of 1 thousand dollars and told to avoid the complainant. They insist that the teenager was injured and that they had nothing to do with the alleged stabbing.
According to Gabourel she was socializing at the Memorial Park when a fight broke out with her sister and a friend. She went towards her sister and that is when she was pulled away from a young lady she later identified as the minor daughter who she alleged came towards her with a broken pint bottle in her hand and stabbed her to the left side of her face.
As they walked away toward Fort Street she realized she was being followed and felt a liquid pouring down her back. She turned back to see the mother who she says threatened to have someone “shoot up” her house, charges the accused mother denies.
Both mother and daughter met bail this afternoon around 12 noon and are due back in court on October 14, 2016.
