By Aaron Humes: With decriminalization of consensual acts “against the order of nature” complete, could gay marriage be next? Opponents believe yes, and are ready to fight it to the highest courts in the land. Government, on the other hand, does not believe that the effect of the judgment will necessarily result in a move toward gay marriage – and P.M. Dean Barrow issued a warning to the LGBT community that the decision “is a shield, not a sword.”
It could be presented in court but would be judged on its own merits and the law of the land remains that marriage is between a man and a woman and Government would “ferociously” defend this, Barrow said.
Barrow refused to give his own opinion on tolerance for LGBT issues, stating that it was “not the right forum.”
