Wednesday, July 22, 2015. BMG: The People’s United Party’s National Executive and standard bearers met at Independence Hall on Tuesday.
In the wake of the Dangriga by-election defeat and departure of Godfrey Smith as national campaign manager, just 18 of the party’s 31 standard bearers attended, with notable absences including northern caucus and rumored leadership candidate Cordel Hyde of Lake Independence.
However, party leader Francis Fonseca and chairman Henry Charles Usher shot down suggestions of a boycott, saying the absentees had apologized for not being able to attend.
The party discussed its plans for the general elections; transfer of electors between divisions; and a proposed national tour.
The PUP has also named a team of coordinators for its national campaign in lieu of a single one. Fonseca denied suggestions that Eamon Courtenay was approached by agents of his to take the post, stating that such an approach would be made personally. In any event, Courtenay denies interest in the job.
