wooden bridge san ignacio

By BBN Staff: It’s been 3 weeks now since the Ministry of Works confirmed that the low lying wooden bridge, which connects San Ignacio and Santa Elena, sustained damages from the flooding associated with Hurricane Earl. Immediately after the hurricane, the Ministry of Works had estimated a down time of 1 month for repairs. Breaking Belize News visited San Ignacio today, and observed that the debris that washed up against the wooden bridge has not been cleared, and there are no sign or activity to indicate that any work is about to begin.

Today’s traffic was hectic in the twin town as commuters continue to use the Hawksworth Bridge for two way traffic. With primary school students set to return to school on Monday, August 29th, the hassle is expected to get worse and commuters will be required to exercise more patience.

The Ministry of Works has not issued any release or given any indication as to when repair works will commence. We will continue to monitor this situation and inform the public as soon as we observe any activity.
