By Aaron Humes: Belizean Trevor Vernon reports that he was denied entry to Canada after authorities reportedly declared that his passport was not genuine.
According to reports, the official he spoke with asked him for a different passport. It is not clear whether he successfully made it into Canada from the U.S. or what was the problem with the passport or other immigration requirements.
This comes as Belize struggles with the Immigration Audit Report that details multiple irregularities with passports, visas and other immigration documents issued to foreign nationals who circumvented the official requirements, in some cases with the alleged help of members of Immigration staff and even Ministers of Government.
Vernon has clarified that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked him to send them the bio-data page and Canadian visa in his passport. He did not contact them.
On Facebook, Vernon shared a screenshot of a conversation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs CEO Lawrence Sylvester, in which Sylvestre tells him to, quote, stop causing unnecessary public alarm, end quote, and reminds that his passport is property of the Government of Belize, before asking that he “get home safely.”
Vernon says he will not offer any interviews or make further public statements on his ordeal. He had previously unsuccessfully sued area representative Edmond Castro on the grounds of alleged breach of the Code of Conduct in the Constitution in regard to alleged misdeeds with regard to Immigration matters.
