By Aaron Humes: Dorian Pakeman, the Director of the Government’s Press Office, earlier this year knocked down and fatally injured 45 year old Dean Dawson, a popular mechanic and father of ten children from neighboring Gardenia village in the vicinity of Biscayne, Belize District.
Pakeman’s fate rests in the hands of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, but Rural Eastern Division police dropped a major bombshell today when commander ACP Edward Broaster confirmed that a peculiar substance was found in Pakeman’s bloodstream at the time of the accident – cocaine.
How much of the drug was found in Pakeman’s bloodstream? Police did not say.
Pakeman remains under notice of intended prosecution but continues in his capacity with the Government. We attempted to reach him for comment at the Press Office in Belmopan and on his personal number but he was not in office and did not answer his personal number. We also have queried the matter with the Office of the D.P.P.
In the aftermath of the accident, Pakeman insisted that Dawson, who was riding his bicycle going north on the Philip Goldson Highway toward Crooked Tree, swerved into his lane as he was coming in the opposite direction toward Ladyville. He said he tried to swerve left to avoid Dawson but still caught him; Dawson died on impact.
