By Zoila Palma: The public transportation system is undergoing a countrywide assessment and restructuring including the rationalization and regularization of rates.
As a result of this, Minister of State with responsibility for Transport Edmond Castro met with bus operators from Stann Creek and Toledo.
Castro was accompanied by CEO in the Ministry of transport and National
Emergency Management, Ruth Meighan, and Chief Transport Officer Tirsio Galvez.
In an extended discussion Castro reviewed important issues affecting the public transportation system in the South and he and bus operators worked out essential details relating to the operation of their buses, fares and quality of service provided to the public.
Similar meetings were held last week with bus operators from the North and the West and the Minister of State and his top officials from the Ministry and Department of Transport.
They also met with taxi operators from the western-border town of Benque Viejo.
Castro is taking these transport matters discussed and agreed upon in principle to Cabinet and he will meet againt with operators to finalize these decisions.
