By Zoila Palma: A team of three officers from Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission were welcomed to Belize on September 13, 2016 by the Ombudsman.

Mrs. Claudia Cristina Ibarra Reynoso, Director of International Cooperation, Dra. Helen Peña Martinez, Director of Non-governmental organizations, and Mr. Jose Leopoldo Vega Correa, Director of Information Technology came on a three day visit and met with members of Belize’s National Garifuna Council, the National Kriol Council of Belize, the Central Information Technology Office, and Belize’s National Human Rights Commission.

Among topics discussed were Afro-descendants in Mexico and Belize, information technology, and human rights issues.

The team’s visit was made as a follow up to a collaboration agreement between Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission and the Ombudsman of Belize, which was signed on January 14, 2016 in Mexico City.
