By BBN Staff: Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development, Gaspar Vega, met with his counterpart, H.E. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment (also responsible for Agriculture and Fisheries) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Margarita Island, Venezuela on September 17 to identify investment, trade opportunities and common experiences in managing the environment, and ensuring sustainable development in both countries.
Minister of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce Erwin Contreras also participated in the joint meeting.
According to a Government of Belize press release, at the meeting, the ministers discussed climate change and natural disasters, such as the impact of Hurricane Earl on the productive sector of Belize.
H.E. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi also informed the Belize ministers that 90 percent of the UAE’s water now comes from desalination projects and they were pleased to hear of the work of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre in Belize and spoke of funding provided to CARICOM to combat climate change.
