By BBN Staff: The Roman Catholic Diocese of Belize has issued a press release about Monday’s strike by the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU).
“Today’s battle for truth in governance being championed by these selfless teachers, adds to a distinguished list of battles bravely fought on behalf of this grateful nation and its children. Perhaps our teachers have been hearing most clearly and most loudly the echo of Christ’s words: “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (Jn 8:32),” reads the press release.
“As the largest stakeholder in education, the Roman Catholic Diocese, at the same time recognizes the temporary vacuum that the teachers in their fight for truth in governance
will leave in their absence. Considering the impending scenario, as the Roman Catholic Diocese, with managing authority for Catholic schools, we believe that the safety of upwards of 50,000 students in our care will be at risk, without the adequate supervision of our teachers. Recognizing these security challenges posed to the Catholic Management at this time, we hereby ask that all parents take note of these special circumstances for Monday, October 3, 2016,” the release further adds.
According to the Diocese, they will continue to closely monitor developments concerning the teachers’ industrial action and give paramount consideration to the safety and security of the school children.
The release ends by saying, “It is our prayer that God’s unfailing light and wisdom will prevail on our Government Leaders to respect the search for truth in governance and to preserve and protect ourgoverning democratic system as a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
