By BBN Staff:Hurricane Matthew remains a powerful hurricane in the Caribbean sea.

It is expected to turn north toward Jamaica tomorrow morning and make landfall in Jamaica on Monday.

After making landfall in Jamaica on Monday, the eastern part of Cuba could see a direct hit later that evening from Matthew with damaging winds, flooding rain and large waves.

Matthew developed very quickly to a Category 5 hurricane last night.

The National Hurricane Center this morning downgraded Matthew to a Category 4 storm but still called it the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic since Felix in 2007.

Matthew’s winds had slipped from a peak of 160 mph to a still-devastating 145 mph.

Kingston, Jamaica’s capital is expected to experience flooding. Rainfall totals of 10 to 15 inches with maximum sustained amounts of 25 inches are expected across Jamaica as well as southern and southwest Haiti.

A hurricane warning is in effect for Jamaica and Haiti.

A hurricane watch is now in effect for Cuba.
