By BBN Staff: WestJet airline has reportedly launched a new seasonal service to Belize.
According to the Toronto Sun this, “promises to give the Central American country’s tourism sector a boost, local tourism officials say.”
WestJet kicked off its twice-weekly service from Toronto on October 29 to Belize City.
Additionally, it is the only Canadian carrier flying directly to Belize.
According to the article, Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia said: “Inconvenient layovers and connections in the U.S. have previously deterred ‘thousands of Canadians’ from visiting Belize.”
The article also quoted the Belize Tourism Board which reported, “Americans make up the country’s largest segment of visitors, more than 60 percent overall, followed by Europeans at 12 percent and Canadians at seven percent.”
The article concludes, “WestJet flights, using Boeing 737 aircraft, depart Toronto at 9:15 a.m., arriving in Belize City at 11:59 a.m. They run until April 29, 2017.”
