By BBN Staff: The Belize International Film Festival’s 11th edition will showcase a number of selections that address important societal themes.
There are many countries being represented at the festival; however, there will be a feature of events and selections that put Belize in the spotlight. These are the opening night films to be featured:
1. “Yochi.” This is a short feature is the story of a 9-year-old selectively mute Maya boy who guards a nest of endangered Yellow-Headed Parrots in Belize’s pine savannah.
2. Music Videos. There are 17 music videos in this category, which is exclusively for Belizeans.
3. Short Documentaries. Of the six selections in this category, five are about Belize: Combating Climate Change (Belize, 2016) 3 min, Dir: Wil Maheia
Lungs of Belize (Belize, 2016) 3 min, Dir: Wil Maheia
Pillaging of the Chiquibul Forest Reserve (Belize, 2016) 7 min, Dir: Orson Picart
The Life of a Village Teacher (Belize, 2016) 5min, Dir: Wil Maheia
Wings of Hope (Belize, 2016) 20min, Dir: Carol & Richard Foster
4. The Diaspora. Belizeans living abroad are part of the festival:

Manna (USA/Belize) 12 min, Dir: D.E. Hyde
The Perfect Family (USA, 2016) 5 min, Dir: Ron Sierra
These Wild Things (USA, 2016) 9 min, Dir: Samantha Smith
5. The Symposium. This free program, on Nov. 11 and 12, will cover a wide range of topics. Day Two, will specifically focus on Belize’s filmmaking environment.
Tickets for the film festival are on sale at the Bliss Centre Box Office or online at belizefilmfestival.com.
A special 50 percent discount is being offered to students and senior citizens; they must bring their IDs to the Bliss.
