Friday, July 31st, 2015. BMG: Belize Rural South area representative Manuel Heredia Jr. says a re-organization of the Police Department in San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker village is contributing to a reduction of crime.
Speaking with News 5, Heredia stated that additional personnel and vehicles have been dispatched to participate in patrols.
On Caye Caulker, there is a complete reorganization of station command under Inspector Dehanne Augustine, while on San Pedro,
Superintendent Sandra Bodden is the officer in charge, replacing acting and deputy commander Supt. Henry Jemmott and ASP Luis Castellanos, respectively.
The entire Coastal Executive Unit has been subsumed under the command of Eastern Division (North Region), based in Belize City and headed by ex-OC Asst. Commr. Dezerie Phillips.
According to Heredia, transportation was one of the major factors whenever police were called to two or three different places probably in a short time, they couldn’t respond immediately.
There are now seven vehicles on San Pedro and in Caye Caulker there is also added additional transportation.
According to Heredia, the changes are necessary to ensure safety on the islands.
