By BB Staff: A tortilla maker is $3,000 away from spending two years in prison.

Ariel Santana, 51, was dragged in front of Magistrate Norman Rodriguez on Monday morning where he plead guilty for failure to display his GST registration certificate.

He was fined $3,000 which is to be paid by June 2017. However, the court has allowed him to make monthly payments of $500.

Santana is the owner of the tortilla factory located at the corner of Vernon and Sarstoon Streets.

On October 29, GST officers entered the premises and noted that his certificate wasn’t displayed. That was when they called in the police and Santana was charged.

However, in court he had argued that his GST certificate was on display on top of a desk.
