By BBN Staff: The Belize Red Cross -San Pedro Branch (SPBRC) announced that training is underway for the staff of Mahogany Bay Village.
A total of 30 First Responders will soon be available to assist staff, visitors of the village and the community at large.
The first 10 were trained last Tuesday. The second group is scheduled for December 6th and the third group soon after. All will be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED utilization.
The San Pedro Red Cross has been providing First Aidtraining to all the citizens, organizations and businesses of San Pedro since November 2013 for a nominal fee.
Hand in hand with First Aid the San Pedro Branch also holds quarterly blood drives.
On Saturday, the Red Cross held their final blood drive for 2016 at the Polyclinic. They collected a total of 16 pints of precious blood, enough to save 48 lives. In tandem with the blood drive, they held a Dollar Drive & collected $205 worth of donations from the generous Ambergris Caye community.
San Pedro Red Cross thanks their sponsors who helped make this possible: Tropic Air, Brooklyn Bros. Bagel Shop, Mermaid store. A special thank you to Dr Otto Rodrigues Polyclinic for a full day use of the clinic.
SPBRC also thanks the Belize Blood Bank and all volunteers that came out to help.
The next blood drive will be held at the Polyclinic on Saturday, February 25th, 2017. Please note that if you are thinking of giving blood, the experience is a very painless one. There is rarely a line & there are always yummy refreshments waiting for you after you donate, the Red Cross said. Donors are reminded to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids.
