By BBN Staff: The Fire Department is struggling to identify the cause of the fire that consumed the Chateau Caribbean over the weekend.
The fire reportedly began at around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday near the rear of the building close to the kitchen.
Though police had to forcibly remove one man who was packing up his possessions while the building blazed. Staff and guests escaped the building without injury.
However, a fire fighter severely wounded his hand after smashing a glass window to gain entry into the burning building.
The total cost of loss has not yet been determined but we are told it ranges in the millions for the 89 year old building constructed in 1927 by the Biddle family.
