By BBN Staff: The cause of 1-year, eleven-month-old baby Janeeka Campbell’s death remains unclear after the completion of a post-mortem examination on Thursday.

Campbell, as it has been widely reported, was found unresponsive on Tuesday with multiple bruises over her body. The mother has been detained and police have remained tight lipped, taking a cautious approach with divulging information.

The post-mortem confirmed that baby Janeeka did not die of natural causes. According to the post-mortem, Campbell died of traumatic asphyxiation due to head and chest trauma. Doctors and the pathologist were scheduled to meet today to try and definitively determine a cause of death since it has been alleged that the child was abused.

The case file, in the meantime, has been forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advise.

Police were called to the scene in St. Mathew’s on Tuesday when they found the child. Officers began transporting her to the hospital but along the way she was transferred to an ambulance. When she arrived at the Western Regional Hospital she was pronounced dead on arrival.
