By BBN Staff: Reports reaching our newsroom is that last night, San Ignacio police intercepted a black Chrysler Pacifica with 8 passengers and one driver on the George Price Highway near Carillo Puerto gas station.
The vehicle caught the attention of police because it had no license plates and upon checking had no insurance.
A source of the San Ignacio police has confirmed to BBN that the driver of the vehicle is a police officer who resides in Benque Viejo town who also had on him a total of US $2000.
The passengers of the vehicle were all soaked as if they had been in a river and could not produce any proof of legal entry to Belize.
They have been identified as being a group of 8 Salvadoran nationals including 3 minors.
The group is currently detained at the San Ignacio police station.
BBN will keep following this story.
