By Hugh O’Brien: Government issued a press release late Monday evening confirming that David Leacock, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the Ministry of Education has submitted his letter of resignation to the Prime Minister. The letter was submitted on September 7th, 2016 and his resignation takes effect on December 31st, 2016.
In the press release, the Ministry of Education outlined Leacock’s contribution to the development of education in Belize, including the development and implementation of the Sector’s Strategy (2012-2016), education reform project, education quality improvement programme, new classroom and school construction, and other initiatives such as quality assurance, secondary education finance reform, teacher education, strengthening early childhood education amongst others.
According to the MOE, Debbie Domingo, will succeed Leacock as CEO with responsibility for Education. Domingo holds a Masters Degree in educational leadership and comes to the table with vast teaching and educational management experience. She is the current General Manager of Anglican Primary Schools.
Leacock was visibly absent in the public domain during the recent 11 day teachers strike led by the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU).
