By BBN Staff: In January of this year, BBN highlighted the deplorable conditions of the police barracks in Caye Caulker.
The residents were requesting that something be done about the conditions of the barracks as it is not livable for officers.
Now 11 months later, the conditions remain the same and residents are still pleading to the relevant authorities to look into the matter.
The wooden structure has aged and dilapidated further. Still it continues to serve as home to the island’s police contingent and their families.
The structure is made entirely of wood that is now rotting. There are also many leaking water pipes.
The barracks has served Caye Caulker for 20 years and according to residents, is badly in need of an upgrade.
The island, a top tourist destination in the country, continues to host many visitors to its beautiful scenic attraction, however, the old worn out police barracks is not one of them as it has become an eyesore.
