By BBN Staff: On December 23, Trevor Jones, a mechanic of Santa Elena Town in Cayo, was charged with a single count of murder.
Jones was charged for the murder of Paulina Urbelina Suarez, 61, who was shot in her house on the night of December 18, 2016.
Reports are that the Magistrate’s Court was closed, however, with the powers of a Justice of the Peace, he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
The remand is only up to December 28 when Jones will appear in court for arraignment.
BBN had reported that the daughter of the deceased, with whom she had a land dispute, was initially detained for questioning. However, investigators were unable to make any connection between the daughter and the alleged murderer so the daughter was released.
A source close to the family has confirmed that immediately after her release, she left the country.
