By Zoila Palma: Tonight, the Community policing unit of the San Ignacio police formation is giving back to the community and sharing the love this Christmas season.
Their kind gesture brought smiles and tears of joy to the recipient families in Cayo. The officers handed over 9 Christmas food hampers to needy families in Santa Elena.
In this season of giving, the officers also gave one of the hampers to the family of their late colleague PC Castillano Pop who passed away two months ago.
Officer in charge of the Community policing unit in San Ignacio, Cpl. Jason Jones told BBN that this is a way of the police giving back to the community that they work for because the police is often called to enforce the law and it’s time for people to see another side of the police.
Jones also expressed his gratitude to the business community and to the NEMO Coordinator Al Westby for their support in this initiative.
The San Ignacio police formation is known for maintaining a close relationship with the community and boasts of active neighborhood watch groups, volunteer special constables, people’s coalition and other community oriented groups and programs such as the Gang resistance education and training (GREAT) education program at primary schools.
