By BBN Staff: Western Dairies marked a momentous occasion on Wednesday, as the company sent its first shipment of Belizean made ice-cream to Grenada.
The shipment included more than 20 flavors familiar to Belizeans for many years. Western Dairies hopes to find a market for its ice cream, making a Belizean product which has been successful at home for many years, available to people of the Caribbean and potentially other markets.
Western Dairies works with 54 farmers and the company employs as many as 190 people. It is a welcomed achievement, especially as the economy is desperately in need of boosting its exports. In years past Belize imported Bico’s ice cream from Barbados. The economy would do well to have other Belizean companies extend its markets as well.
