Sunday, August 09, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Three candidates are presently contesting the candidacy of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the Stann Creek West constituency during a convention ongoing today.
Former standard bearer and area representative Melvin Hulse stepped down before the Dangriga by-election in July after being recorded making disparaging and potentially libelous comments about the party’s direction under Prime Minister and party leader Dean Barrow.
The candidates are Labour Commissioner Ivan Williams; retired teacher Walter Garbutt and constituency chair for the UDP Nathan Young. Ex-press officer for the Government and newscaster Delroy Cuthkelvin, who stepped aside for Hulse last year, was barred from running after getting into trouble with the local constituency committee.
The results will be posted as they become available. The winner faces incumbent, Hon. Rodwell Ferguson.
