Wednesday, August 12th, 2015. BMG: Studies have shown that vision disability is the number one health issue in schools, which affect learning abilities and results in lower performances from students.
To help combat this problem, the Lions Club in Belize has organized a National Children Eye Screening Programme which will commence in September.
This programme will target children between the ages of 3-14 throughout Belize, doing screenings with special portable eye screeners that take just a few seconds to detect children who need vision corrections.
The Lions Clubs in Belize, with the aid of a grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation, donations from Government Ministries, Non-Governmental Organizations and the local Business Community, will pay for eye glasses for children who need them and cannot afford them.
Screenings will be done by Lions Clubs members and non-Lions volunteers.
