Tuesday, August 18th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: 32 year old Daniel Meighan pleaded not guilty to charges of keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license when he was arraigned yesterday, August 17th, by Magistrate Patricia Arana.
Meighan was taken in custody by police, hours after the home invasion was reported in the Hattieville area on Sunday August 16, 2015; however, according to Officer Commanding Eastern Division (Rural) Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster, police have not linked him either to that incident or any other crime.
The police reported that they were on George Price Highway at Rockville when they saw Meighan, who was dressed in camouflage uniform, walking on the highway. The police said when they stopped to search Meighan they saw that he had a 16 gauge shotgun.
The police said that when they searched Meighan they found four 16 gauge cartridges and four 20 gauge cartridges on the pocket of his pants. Meighan was unable to produce a license for the firearm and ammunition.
In court Magistrate Arana explained to Meighan that the court cannot offer him bail because of the nature of the offence. She remanded him into custody until October 14.
