With the support of his bosses in Belmopan, Sr. Supt. Williams and his colleagues in the North and Rural regions have been on the ground almost daily speaking to residents, mediating with gang members and rejuvenating a Department that seemed out of ideas.

To continue that effect, Sr. Supt. Williams unveiled the second part of the plan with the establishment of the Crime Analysis and Intelligence Unit located on the third floor of the Racoon Street Police Station.

The $20,000-plus donation from the Central American Regional Security Initiative (CARSI) managed by the U.S. Embassy paid for computers, desks and other equipment for the Unit room.

According to Williams, gone are the days when officers randomly targeted individuals based only on suspicion. The members of the CAIU will be constantly tracking crime from inception to incarceration and will provide more in-depth analysis using human intelligence more effectively.

The unit will be up and running next week.
