Senior Superintendent of Police Chester Williams promised some results, and it appears he has now delivered. He told reporters today that major incidents in the first full month of the new regime – both murders,

incidences of theft, robbery and burglary as well as sex crimes have been sharply reduced, especially in areas which were major hotspots.

Just one murder – that of Malik Dixon – took place in all of Southside in August, down from four in the same period last year. Major incidents are down by half in Precinct One and by a third in Precinct Two.

Precinct One is all that area east of Central American Boulevard and bordered by Haulover Creek and the Caribbean Sea, including major gang hotspots such as Mayflower, Yabra, George Street and so on, while Precinct Two lies south of the creek and generally west of Central American Boulevard.

As part of the continued effort, the Police hosted their third community day in the Yabra area of the City on Sunday. Supt. Williams plans to unite the entire Southside under the banner of sport.

Teams from Yabra and Kraal Road placed one-two-three in the basketball tournament and a Southside Cup is planned with all the major areas of the district for later this year.

Police have released no official statistics for the remainder of the country thus far.
