Friday, 04 September 2015. BMG: General elections are right around the corner but a specific date has still not been set.
Some have speculated it will be in late October while others predict early November, but Prime Minister Dean Barrow told the media on Thursday that the election can be called anytime in the next six months.
He did not indicate whether there is any truth to the rumors, only saying the elections will be before next March.
He also spoke on criticisms of his givernment’s spending of the Petrocaribe Fund, saying that the time for worrying about repayment is nowhere near, especially since the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) compensation settlement will soon be paid and the Superbond debt will be bought back using Petrocaribe flows.
He added that when those two things have been accomplished then Petrocaribe debt itself can be dealt with.
