Friday, September 18, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The late Right Honorable George Price died on September 19, 2011, and a grateful nation continues to remember his life and legacy. At his graveside today, members of the party he led for forty years, the People’s United Party (PUP), gathered for their twice-yearly observance in his honor.
Grandnephew and party chairman Henry Charles Usher recalled that the great man said, a half century ago, that there are certain values we Belizeans should cherish and pass on – hard work, dignity, service to others and to nation.
On the eve of National Service Day, party leader Francis Fonseca told reporters that each passing year makes Hon. Price’s life clearer and for the PUP, increases its duty to pass on his ideals.
And according to Fonseca, he has benefited from Mr. Price’s example in dealing with the ongoing separations within today’s PUP.
In related news regarding the reunification of the party, leader Francis Fonseca disagreed that he has conceded much to the rebel group of 11 at their recent meeting. He says their main agreement is concerning the holding of a national convention at which a comprehensive formal reform agenda will be outlined following internal consultations.
Fonseca added that his leadership is not under threat this close to a national convention and certainly an early general election; the rebels conceded that during their negotiations.
The leader noted that with elections this close, party unity is more important than personal ambition.
