Sunday, September 20th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Accused of the attempted murder of a co-worker in April, Coast Guard seaman Keyren Tzib now faces 
an additional charge of manslaughter for the death of common-law husband Thytis Blancaneaux in July, which happened as they were arguing at their residence in Lords’ Bank, Belize District.
Justice Herbert Lord had released Tzib on bail for the earlier charge after satisfying himself that she was not a threat to society or herself and her alleged victim, Kurt Hyde, would recover from his injuries. But Tzib’s mental state is again under question by brother judge Troadio Gonzalez, who heard the bail application on Friday.
Justice Gonzalez has deferred his decision, as Justice Lord initially did, to September 25 pending the results of a fresh psychiatric evaluation by the prison department.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)’s representative, Sheneiza Smith, objected to bail on three grounds. Smith submitted that Tzib should not be granted bail because she is a threat to herself and society and there is likelihood that she will commit another offense.
The prosecutor added that there is a very strong case against Tzib for the death of Blancaneaux, who was stabbed in July of this year at their Lord’s Bank home.
Smith is also relying on a letter from a Coastguard Commander who wrote that Tzib was showing a pattern of violent behaviour.
Tzib’s attorney Darrell Bradley countered that the kind of treatment Tzib urgently needs is not readily available or can be facilitated by the Belize Central Prison and that she missed appointments because she was in prison.
He also introduced an affidavit from a Psychiatric Nurse who gave her opinion of Tzib’s mental state.
