Friday, September 25, 2015. BMG: Businesses, particularly in Caribbean Shores where incumbent Mayor of Belize City Darrell Bradley faces a challenge from Kareem Musa, are complaining that they pay an unfair share of the city’s property and trade license taxes without getting the requisite service. They also say taxes have gone up since he took office.
Bradley insists otherwise, saying that per agreement with the Chamber of Commerce there is a moratorium on any increase of property taxes and trade license which has been in place for two years and there is no planned adjustments. This he says is pending the discussions on a task force to address the problem.
Bradley has independently proposed a 50% cut in trade license fees and a switch to a different style of assessment. The Chamber has said it prefers a different style.
