Monday, September 28, 2015. BMG: The People’s United Party (PUP) leader Francis Fonseca said the PUP is ready for general elections, following the Prime Minister’s announcement earlier today that elections are set for November 4th.
Fonseca said in addition to the party being prepared for elections, he believes his seat in Freetown is secure. He said of the over 500 newly registered voters in Freetown, the PUP is responsible for enough new voters to secure a convincing victory in his constituency.
He also said the party is prepared financially, as money often tend to play a crucial role in Belizean elections. Fonseca said the PUP has not received any campaign financing from Lord Michael Ashcroft and alluded that the United Democratic Party (UDP) may have received something from Ashcroft in return for the $162 million dollar settlement paid to him over the Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) nationalization.
Fonseca added that the PUP machinery is geared up and will be revealing their manifesto in the next few weeks as well as unveiling several reform agendas.
